Samsung Crystal UHD 4K TV Review

Samsung TV is an option for those looking for a big screen and good value for money. The AU7700 is an entry-level smart TV from Samsung launched in May this year. The South Korean’s highlights are the Crystal 4K processor, the Tizen operating system, and the various connectivity options, with Bixby, Alexa, Siri, and Google voice assistants, and native services such as Prime Video, Netflix, Apple TV+, and Spotify.

Samsung Crystal UHD 4K TV Review

The TV was announced alongside the premium Neo QLED line, which won the TechTudo Best of the Year award in the TV of the Year category with the QN85A model. I tested the 70-inch Crystal UHD, seen for R$3,627 on Amazon. Check out the full review below.

Important: As it is a test model, I chose not to remove the protection plates present on the edges of the TV. Therefore, consider that the rear screen is larger than in the images.

Samsung Crystal UHD 4K TV Design, Screen, and Audio

The smart TV AU7700 is an entry-level model with a robust design. The 70-inch option weighs in at around 25kg and naturally takes up a lot of space. Due to the weight, it is important for the consumer to consider whether it is safe to install the device on the wall. Without a stand, the television is 1.55 m wide, 90 cm high, and 6 cm deep. Overall, the finish is simple and the thickness is not the thinnest, which can bother users or users who value more aesthetics or portability.

Installation is a plus point for simplicity. Just attach the feet, the cable that leads to the socket, and the antenna and that’s it.

The smart TV does not have the connection hub that comes with premium Samsung models like The Frame. In this case, the manufacturer’s solution to contain the wires is the use of plastic channels, which come with the TV in the box but do not guarantee an invisible installation. Input options are three HDMI ports, one USB, one Ethernet (LAN), and one RF antenna.

The AU7700 has 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) and “no limits” ultra-thin bezels, according to the manufacturer. The screen features a frequency rate of 60 Hz and a 4K Crystal processor, which gives the model its name and promises more vivid colors. In practice, the images are great for an entry-level model, but not impressive.

The audio consists of two output channels of 20 Watts RMS of power and Dolby Digital Plus technology. It’s nothing like a home theater, but the speakers are enough for home use.

Samsung Crystal UHD 4K TV Remote Control

The AU7700 accessory is an inferior version of the famous Solar Cell, a remote control that recharges via sunlight and accompanies Samsung’s high-end Neo QLED models. In early December, the manufacturer announced that the sale of Neo QLED TVs in 2021 contributed to avoiding the disposal of about a million batteries in the ecosystem.

In the case of the AU7700, the control has recycled material, but it needs batteries to work. The minimalist design promises to make life easier with buttons that lead directly to streaming services and voice assistants. The operating system is the default for Samsung’s Tizen models. The platform is the highlight of the AU7700, as it has several content and connectivity options that improve the user experience.

Smart Thing is a feature that connects the TV to other electronics in the house automatically and without major worries. Samsung also offers Tap View, which allows you to mirror your phone to your TV just by touching your smartphone to the screen.

Support for HDR and HDR10+ and the presence of up scaling are other tools that help improve image quality. Crystal AU7700 does not support Dolby Vision.

Samsung Crystal UHD 4K TV Price and competitors

In the days leading up to this year’s Black Friday, the company topped the search rankings in the TV category, and the model discussed in this review was number one on the most wanted list.

Samsung is a big name in the segment, but other manufacturers deliver televisions with similar specifications and competitive prices. One of them is the Philips 70PUG6774/78, 70-inch 4K option. The Dutch brand TV features Dolby Vision and Atmos, HDR10+, and ultra-thin bezels. The system used is SAPHI which offers fewer features compared to Tizen. Cheap Samsung Phone: Best Choices of 2022

The LG 70UN7310 is also a 70-inch smart TV that rivals Samsung. The system used by the manufacturer is webOS, which is equivalent to Tizen in terms of functionality. South Korean television has HDR 10 Pro and HLG Pro technology. The price is a little more expensive: the TV is seen for R$ 5,999 online retail. What to expect from WWDC 2022?

The Crystal TV AU7700 is a good option for those looking for a big screen that doesn’t compromise so much on the budget. The features, the “infinite” ultra-thin screen, and connectivity to Samsung’s ecosystem are the highlights of the device. The exaggerated weight, the rustic design, and the average image are points to be considered by the most demanding consumers.
