What features does the Intel B660 chipset offer?

To begin with, let’s figure out what the Intel B660 is. This is a mid-range chipset in the family of chipsets for the 12th generation Intel Core.

Compared to older chipsets, the B660 uses a halved backbone between the processor and the system logic set – the DMI 4.0 x4 interface with a bandwidth of 7.88 GB / s. In practice, this means that it will not make sense to use several (more than two) high-speed PCIe 4.0 SSDs in a PC, since their capabilities will not be fully exploited. However, such scenarios can only be observed in the segment of top gaming PCs, for which the B660 was not created.

Declared support for four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with a bandwidth of 10 Gb / s (with the possibility of pairing them into USB 3.2 Gen 2 × 2 ports with a bandwidth of 20 Gb / s) and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports with a bandwidth of 5 Gb / s With. Support for four SATA interfaces is also provided.

Support for increasing the frequency of RAM. But overclocking the CPU is no longer possible.

MSI PRO B660M-P DDR4 Board Features

The MSI PRO B660M-P DDR4 board is made in the mATX form factor. There are four slots for DDR4 memory modules (up to 4600 MHz in overclocking mode), two M.2 connectors and four SATA 6 Gb / s ports.

Network capabilities are relatively modest: the Realtek RTL8111H controller provides only a base bandwidth of 1 Gb / s, and there is no built-in Wi-Fi module. The Realtek ALC897 (7.1) codec is responsible for processing the audio path.

Conclusion

MSI PRO B660M – P DDR4 board can be called the best choice for a high-performance PC based on 12 Gen Intel Core processors. The only limitation is the lack of processor overclocking capabilities; in all other respects, the device is not inferior to more expensive models based on the Intel Z690 chipset.
